Geographical Information Science
The objectives of the Geographical Information Science unit are centred around enhancing data accuracy, expanding data collection efforts, and improving data accessibility. Efforts are made to use and update existing datasets, conduct field surveys for data validation, and streamline data-sharing processes to ensure efficient collaboration with data custodians as well as data users and stakeholders.
The Geographical Information Science unit plays a crucial role in spatial data initiatives within the region, focusing on the implementation of diverse programs aimed at enhancing capacity and facilitating knowledge sharing. Training sessions to improve the technical skills of departmental staff, and work sessions are but some of the initiatives organised to encourage the adoption of geographical information management technology across various departments and sections.
