Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) has launched a contest about energy efficiency among high schools in Garden Route district (Hessequa, Mossel Bay, George, Knysna, Bitou, Oudtshoorn and Kannaland).

The main objective of this contest is to raise awareness in the educational sector of the importance of assuming sustainable energy behaviours.  The theme of the competition is energy efficiency and sustainability in my school.

Learners from each participating school are encouraged to work together to design a bulletin board story around energy sustainability.

Learners need to reflect on their understanding of energy sustainability in the design, to highlight the importance of energy efficiency and ways in which their school makes more efforts to save energy.

The competition will have one entry category which is for learners to design a bulletin board that demonstrates their understanding on the concept of Energy efficiency and sustainability through art.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Preparing a product involves principles of energy efficiency and sustainability, which include qualities like teamwork, creativity, innovation, content and expression.
  2. Does the message conveyed show the learners’ understanding of the topic, and is it factually correct?
  3. Is the submission neat, organised, and well-presented and does it meet the brief?
  4. Are the details of the schools indicated?

PRIZES TO BE WON

Three prizes will be awarded in the category. The top three high schools will receive the following prizes:

  • 1st Prize will be R15 000
  • 2nd Prize will be R10 000
  • 3rd Prize will be R5 000

RULES FOR THE COMPETITION

  1. One online entry form must be completed by each participating school. Entering the competition confirms that the school has received the necessary approval to participate and that the school will receive any prizes that may be awarded.
  2. Any number of learners can contribute to the end product.
  3. There is a restriction of one entry per school.
  4. The winning prize will be awarded to the school. The prize is non-transferable and non-exchangeable, and the GRDM will not consider any alternatives.
  5. The judge’s decision on any aspect of the competition is final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  6. All submitted entries will be the property of the GRDM and may be published on various media platforms.
  7. A high-resolution image of the bulletin board must be emailed to communications@gardenroute.gov.za or  grdmcommunications@gmail.com. The top three winning schools will also have their bulletin boards photographed by the GRDM Communication Team. Please ensure that a submission e-mail subject is titled “Entry submission: School Name”
  8. Include a contact person, e-mail address and cellular number of the coordinator of the design (for instance the headboy or headgirl of the school).
  9. Unclear submissions will unfortunately be disqualified.
  10. The closing date for the competition is 8 March 2024.
